What a great idea for someone with a sweet-tooth!!! The Fashion Office has expanded the business into Los Angeles – more on that later. A friend suggested I go on a doughnut crawl as a way to familiarize myself with the area and satisfy the afore mentioned sweet-tooth. There’s very little I like more than a doughnut. Let’s not bring my nieces, my fur babies or Chanel into these. After a little research I discovered there were many more options for doughnuts in Los Angeles than I would have thought. So I made a list of 6 or 7 places that were fairly close to the apartment and off I went.
Bob’s Coffee & Doughnuts was our first stop. It is located in the Original Farmers Market at 6333 West 3rd Street in Los Angeles. The doughnuts were good. Not gourmet or overly creative but good. They are a classic. They only take cash so I had to find an ATM. In my search for one, the other shops and restaurants at the Farmer’s Market piqued my curiosity. But we were on a mission, a doughnut mission so I decided I would have to satisfy that curiosity another time. Cash in hand I ordered the shamrock, M&M, white chocolate swirl and chocolate covered doughnuts. In regards to taste the white chocolate swirl was the most unique. All were good and I would certainly visit again if I were in the area but probably won’t make a special trip.
Sidecar was next at 175 South Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles. This was an EXPERIENCE. They have a few locations and this is the newest and thankfully just 10 minutes from the apartment in West Hollywood. These doughnuts were super fresh. They make everything in house in small batches. There was alot to choose from. I got the Butter & Salt, Saigon Cinnamon Crumb, Maple Bacon, Thin Mint, Choc-a-lot and Salted Malted Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough doughnuts. So much thought went into each one and you could taste it. Delicious! There will be repeated trips when I am in town.
Unfortunately fōnuts was closed. We had just missed them. They are at 8104 West 3rd Street in Los Angeles. Defined as the enlightened doughnut they are locally famous since they are always baked, never fried and gluten free. There are also vegan options. I have my eye on the Black & White, Chocolate Chip Cookie, Peanut Butter Chocolate and Churro. I’ll make sure to put them at the top of the list on my next LA Doughnut Crawl.
After a quick run to the apartment to drop off the doughnuts we’d already acquired – I also need to take the little ones out and feed them, we ended up at California Donuts. They are located 3540 West 3rd Street in Los Angeles. Upside – they are open 24 hours – always good to know that if there is a doughnut and/or sugar emergency it can be satisfied at any time of the day. Downside – there was a line. I hate lines as do most people and I understand there’s almost always a line. They are famous locally for their Panda doughnut (they use Oreo cookies to make the ears, how do you think they landed on my list?) and their Unicorn doughnut. Thankfully the line was moving. We had dinner reservations later and some time to kill so why not spend it getting more doughnuts? When we got to the front of the line there wasn’t a Panda or Unicorn in sight. Sold out! So I ordered the Fruity Peebles, Froot Loop, Cookies & Cream as well as the Baby Chick and additional doughnuts which were seasonal. The doughnuts were good and while I don’t love the idea of standing in line again, I plan to go back and try some of the other flavors.
Speaking of lines, getting to Randy’s Donuts was ridiculous! They’re described as world famous. Unfortunately I can’t tell you why. Since we had time to spare before our dinner reservation at Playa Provisions (You can read about that here) we decided to grab a more doughnuts at Randy’s. I’m greedy! They have a few locations. We went to 805 West Manchester Boulevard in Inglewood because it was close to the restaurant. When we got there the sun was out, there was a line of cars in front of us but we figured it wouldn’t be a bad way to spend some time before our reservation. An hour went by, the sun went down and with it my patience. Those doughnuts must have been AMAZING. At least I would hope since people waited so long to get them. By the way getting out and standing in line didn’t help. I didn’t want to be late for dinner so off we went and on the list Randy’s goes for my next Doughnut Crawl.
