Celebrate Independence Day with a picnic of elevated Southern comfort foods!

Fried chicken is a must have for any picnic in the South and I have two options – Southern classic Fried Chicken and an alternative, Oven Fried Chicken. Both are great. You can serve one or the other if you wish or go the more indulgent route and serve them side by side. I would never do a picnic without two of my all time favorites, Hot Water Cornbread and deviled eggs – in this case Bacon &  Caviar Topped Deviled Eggs.

I have never been a fan of potato salad. Stop clutching your pearls, I know it would be sacrilegious not to include it so I found a solution. Everyone from New York to Los Angeles knows I love fingerling potatoes. I also love a great pesto. So I found recipes that incorporate both. Great twist on a classic, Fingerling Potato Salad with Chive Mayonaisse and Pesto Potato Salad. Rounding out the sides are Tennessee-style Mustard Coleslaw, Baked Beans, and Watermelon, Feta, and Olive Salad.

You always want to end on a high note. One of my favorite desserts and one of my biggest hits, Salted Caramel Brownies are a must. And you can’t do a picnic without a pie, Chess Pie. Knowing me I’d bring a few bottles of champagne and it’s always fun to include a cocktail. The Hibiscus Tequila Mule is pretty, refreshing and delicious! Happy picnicking!
