Here are five key points about Nashville SC and Atlético Ottawa’s home-and-away series in the first round of the Concacaf Champions Cup, where the winner is determined by aggregate score:
- This Tuesday’s game is Nashville SC’s first time competing in the Concacaf Champions Cup since reaching the Round of 16 in 2024. It’s also their first-ever matchup with a Canadian Premier League team. Nashville SC earned their spot in the 2026 tournament by winning the 2025 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
- Nashville SC is among just nine MLS clubs to have qualified for the Concacaf Champions Cup at least twice over the past three years.
- Seven players currently on Nashville SC’s roster played in the club’s 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup campaign: Josh Bauer, Dan Lovitz, Jack Maher, Hany Mukhtar (one goal, one assist), Alex Muyl (one assist), Sam Surridge (two goals, one assist), and Joe Willis (three starts).
- Atlético Ottawa is making its Concacaf Champions Cup debut as host against Nashville SC. Ottawa qualified for the 2026 tournament by capturing its first CPL title last season, beating Cavalry FC 2-1.
- Tuesday’s match is the first of four in 12 days for Nashville SC to start the 2026 season. The Boys in Gold will play again this Saturday, Feb. 21 when they kick off their 2026 MLS season by hosting the New England Revolution at GEODIS Park at 7:30 p.m. CT presented by Transcard.
Nashville SC became a Major League Soccer club on February 29, 2020, when it played in front of the largest crowd ever for a soccer game in Tennessee. The team made history in 2025 by winning the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, earning its first trophy and the state’s first major pro sports championship. In its debut MLS season, Nashville SC surprised many by advancing to the Conference Semifinals in the 2020 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs, becoming the second expansion club to do so. The team continued its strong performance by reaching the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs again in 2021, going unbeaten at home and joining a select group as the seventh MLS squad to achieve that feat. Nashville SC made the playoffs in 2022, 2023, and 2025, making it just the third team to qualify in each of its first four years and the ninth to reach the postseason in five of its first six seasons. On May 1, 2022, the club opened GEODIS Park, the largest soccer-specific stadium in the U.S. and Canada, with a sellout crowd of 30,109.
