Nashville Soccer Club (9W-3L-5D, 32 pts.) will host St. Louis CITY SC (9W-5L-2D, 29 pts.) on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. CT presented by Heineken Silver. Nashville SC is riding a nine-match unbeaten streak entering Matchday 19 and would set a club record of 10 consecutive matches without a loss in league play with a result against St. Louis.

Saturday night will mark the first time Nashville has ever faced against St. Louis CITY SC and the fourth time Nashville SC will face an MLS expansion side after previously playing Inter Miami CF (2020), Austin FC (2021) and Charlotte FC (2022). The Boys in Gold own a 2W-1L-0D record in inaugural matches against expansion sides.

Earlier today, Nashville SC Head Coach Gary Smith and St. Louis native Joe Willis addressed the media. Smith spoke about the quality St. Louis CITY SC has on their team and his ability to relate to them as an expansion side with Nashville SC entering the league in 2020.

Willis spoke about the thrill of playing against St. Louis with a strong contingency of his family planning on being in attendance this Saturday. Willis also praised the current form Nashville is in and how well his teammates have played in the current nine-match unbeaten streak, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.

Nashville’s goalkeeper has thrived this season posting the best goals against average in MLS in 2023 at 0.71. Willis leads the league with a save percentage of 81.5% (minimum seven matches played) and has allowed one goal or less in 16 of his 17 starts this season.

Nashville SC has a goals against average of 1.00 all-time in MLS regular season play, the lowest all-time in MLS history. The Boys in Gold enter the weekend with the best goals against average this season at 0.71 and has allowed more than one goal in a match just once in 17 matches this season. Nashville SC owns the best goal-differential (13) in the Eastern Conference.

A player to watch on Saturday will be reigning Landon Donovan MLS MVP Hany Mukhtar who has continued his dominance as the league’s best, leading MLS in goal contributions with 17 (10 goals + 7 assists). The German attacker is the only player in MLS to have an active streak of 10 plus goals and five plus assists in three consecutive seasons. In his career, Mukhtar has contributed to 87 of Nashville SC’s 156 goals in MLS history (53 goals + 34 assists). With his next goal or assist, Mukhtar will become just the 10th player in MLS history to record at least 80 goal contributions in a three-year span and will be well within striking distance of the record of 92, set by Sebastian Giovinco from 2015-17.

Nashville SC and its community were heartbroken by the devastating news that lifetime supporter Ben Cowherd suddenly passed away on Sunday, June 11. Ben was the beat of The Backline Supporters Collective, always drumming his heart away with a welcoming smile and spirit that was greater than life. Soccer was Cowherd’s avenue to care and stand up for those in need and in that spirit, he built a community of soccer fans and friends whose backgrounds surpassed borders. Ben’s place in the soccer community cannot be measured.

In the 35th minute, the Backline Supporters Collective, Nashville SC Supporter Groups, will hold a minute of silence to honor Ben and the age he was at the time of his sudden passing.

Saturday’s match will serve as a celebration of Juneteenth with activations throughout the night. All musical performances were selected by the National Museum of African American Music which will include the Black National Anthem prior to kickoff.
