Nashville continues its mark as an elite expansion side, clinching a spot in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs for the third consecutive year, becoming just the fifth team in league history to reach the playoffs in each of its first three seasons alongside the Chicago Fire, Seattle Sounders FC, Atlanta United FC and LAFC. Â
Earlier today Head Coach Gary Smith spoke to the media to preview the match against LAFC, with defender Jack Maher discussing the prospect of appearing in his 50th career MLS match, while reaching the postseason in every year of his professional career.     Â
Nashville SC (12W-10L-11D, 47 pts.) enter Decision Day in fifth place in the Western Conference, just three points shy of third place. Should Nashville finish in third or fourth place in the Western Conference, the Boys in Gold would secure a home playoff match at GEODIS Park the weekend of Oct. 15 through Monday, Oct. 17. Â Â Â Â Â
Landon Donovan MLS MVP frontrunner Hany Mukhtar will have the opportunity to secure the 2022 MLS Golden Boot on Sunday. The German, who leads all MLS players with 23 goals and 34 goal contributions headed into Decision Day, is followed closely by Austin FC’s striker Sebastian Driussi with 21.  Â
Mukhtar established his MVP candidacy this season, contributing to at least one goal in 17 of his last 21 MLS appearances while becoming the first player in 2022 to reach double-digit goals and assists. Â Â Â Â Â Â
Nashville SC, who started the season with eight weeks on the road, has excelled away from GEODIS Park, setting a club record for road wins with six. The Boys in Gold have not lost a road contest since July 9 and have scored more road goals this season (21) than any season prior. Nashville has allowed just 20 goals away from home this season which is the lowest total in the Western Conference. Â Â Â Â
At the conclusion of the match on Sunday, Head Coach Gary Smith and players will be available to the media via Zoom. In the meantime, follow Nashville SC on the club’s website, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.     Â
