Callaghan, who guided the Boys in Gold to their first Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup victory and set several franchise records in his debut season as head coach in 2025—including most wins (22), longest unbeaten run (15), and highest goal total (75)—will remain with Nashville SC through the end of the 2028-29 campaign.

Nashville Soccer Club revealed today that Head Coach B.J. Callaghan’s contract has been extended until the 2028-29 Major League Soccer season. Callaghan took over as only the second Head Coach in Nashville SC history on July 3, 2024.

“B.J. has made a remarkable difference in our team’s achievements, and this extension is thoroughly earned,” stated Mike Jacobs, President of Soccer Operations and General Manager for Nashville SC.

“I appreciate the support from John Ingram, Ian Ayre, Mike Jacobs, the players, and the staff,” said Callaghan. “My focus is on our daily efforts—fostering a strong culture, advancing player development, and building a team that resonates with our fans, the city of Nashville, and all of Tennessee. I look forward to continuing our progress as a group.”

In his initial full season at the helm in 2025, Callaghan steered Nashville SC to its inaugural championship—bringing home Tennessee’s first major professional sports title—by defeating Austin FC 2-1 to secure the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. He also helped the team reach new milestones, including:

  • Most wins in a single season (22)

The Boys in Gold kick off their 2026 campaign this Tuesday, February 17, with a Concacaf Champions Cup Round One matchup against Atlético Ottawa, the reigning Canadian Premier League champions. The team will then return to GEODIS Park for their MLS opener against the New England Revolution on Saturday, February 21 at 7:30 p.m. CT.

Nashville SC entered Major League Soccer on February 29, 2020, drawing the largest crowd ever for a soccer match in Tennessee. The club claimed its first trophy—and Tennessee’s first major professional sports championship—with a win in the 2025 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. In its debut MLS season, Nashville SC surprised many by becoming only the second expansion team to win and make the Conference Semifinals in the 2020 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. The team returned to the playoffs the following year after going unbeaten at home—an achievement matched by just seven MLS teams. Nashville SC qualified for the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs again in 2022, 2023, and 2025, joining an elite group by making the postseason in its first four seasons and five of its first six. The club inaugurated GEODIS Park, the largest soccer-specific stadium in the U.S. and Canada, before a sellout crowd of 30,109 on May 1, 2022.
