Nashville SC entered Major League Soccer on February 29, 2020, playing in front of a record-breaking crowd for a soccer match in Tennessee. The club captured its first major trophy and delivered the state’s inaugural professional sports championship by winning the 2025 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Surpassing expectations in its debut MLS season, Nashville SC became just the second expansion team to win and reach the Conference Semifinals in the 2020 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. The team continued its strong performance by making the MLS Cup Playoffs again in its second season—one of only seven MLS clubs ever to go unbeaten at home that year. The Boys in Gold also qualified for the playoffs in 2022, 2023, and 2025, making them only the third club in league history to reach the postseason in each of their first four years and one of nine to do so in five of their first six seasons. In May 2022, Nashville SC opened GEODIS Park, the largest soccer-specific stadium in the U.S. and Canada, with a sellout crowd of 30,109 fans.
