I was in Los Angeles working with a client and as I was checking my phone something popped up about Mickey Guyton co-hosting the ACM Awards with Keith Urban. It went on to say that it was historic as she would be the first black woman to host the show. So I started thinking – wouldn’t it be great to take this historic moment and turn it into an even greater opportunity for black creatives? So we emailed her management the following:

“Mickey Guyton looked beautiful at the GRAMMYs on Sunday and her performance was extraordinarily powerful! I know that she is hosting the ACMs next month. I’m sure she’ll be performing “Black Like Me.” Would she like the unique opportunity not only to work with a black stylist, but also to be dressed in stunning looks he can resource from all black designers?”

Unfortunately, we never received a response. Is it disappointing? Absolutely. Is it the end of the world? Absolutely not. As I waited for the reply, I assembled a mood board of potential looks for Mickey. I like options. My thought was I wanted to have something compelling to show them when they replied. At least have a starting point for discussion. The goal was to dress her head to toe and make her look stunning, so all of the items – apparel, jewelry, handbags, shoes are from black designers. One of the designers’ collection was titled “Black.Like.Me” when he launched. I thought it’s kismet!!! Alas, it was not to be. Nonetheless, I share those images with you and I hope you’ll let me know what you think.
