Owen Presthus arrives on loan from Columbus Crew as Nashville SC continues shaping the culture and future of the Boys in Gold

In Nashville, where sport often enters the same civic conversation as music, neighborhood identity and public ritual, the arrival of a new player can feel like more than a roster move. Nashville Soccer Club’s loan acquisition of defender Owen Presthus from the Columbus Crew is, on paper, a transaction built around General Allocation Money and future options. But for a club still writing its place into the city’s cultural landscape, it is also another small act of authorship: a young American player joining a team that has become part of the rhythm of a rapidly evolving Southern city.

Presthus, a 20-year-old Homegrown player and United States youth international, joins Nashville SC on loan through the 2027 MLS Sprint Season, which runs from February to May. The agreement sends $50,000 in 2027 General Allocation Money to Columbus, with Nashville retaining an option to acquire him permanently at the conclusion of the loan. Columbus may receive up to an additional $50,000 in GAM if performance-based incentives are met.

For Nashville, the appeal appears to be as much about imagination as coverage. Presthus brings positional flexibility, with the ability to play on either side, in defense and in midfield. That range matters in the modern game, where fullbacks, wingbacks and wide midfielders are often asked to blur categories, shifting from containment to creation in a single passage of play.

“Owen is a talented young player that we believe fits really well with what our group embodies on and off the field,” said Nashville SC President of Soccer Operations and General Manager Mike Jacobs. Jacobs pointed to Presthus’s versatility across the left and right sides, as well as between defense and midfield, and noted that his professional and youth international experience places him “in position to be a key contributor” as the club continues to grow.

That résumé is already unusually full for a player born in 2006. Since 2023, Presthus has recorded eight goals and 11 assists across 73 professional appearances with the Columbus Crew, MLS NEXT Pro side Columbus Crew 2, and Hartford Athletic of the USL Championship, where he spent time on loan in 2025.

His development has also included time on the international stage. Presthus has appeared for the United States U20 Youth National Team, contributing two assists in three appearances, and has also featured twice for the U19 side. Those appearances place him among a generation of young American players whose careers are unfolding across an increasingly connected domestic soccer ecosystem.

For supporters, the move offers a glimpse of Nashville SC’s longer view. The club is not merely acquiring a stopgap defender; it is taking a measured look at a young player whose profile suggests adaptability, growth and possible permanence. In a city accustomed to watching artists, athletes and communities reinvent themselves in public, Presthus arrives as another figure at the beginning of a new chapter.

The transaction may be modest in scale, but its meaning lies in possibility: a young player, a growing club and a city that has learned to make spectacle feel local.
