Nashville Soccer Club starts its two-match road week with a midweek competition at Sporting Kansas City on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. CT. The Boys in Gold will then travel to San Jose, Calif., for their second fixture of the week at 9:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, September 23rd.

Nashville SC and Sporting Kansas City have faced off three times in series history. The first meeting came in Nashville’s inaugural MLS season, with the following two meetings occurring during the 2022 MLS season, when Nashville SC was part of the Western Conference. In 2022, Nashville SC and Sporting KC split the results evenly, with Nashville winning 2-1 at Children’s Mercy Park in April 2022 and Sporting KC taking the victory in June 2022 at GEODIS Park.

Though Nashville SC and Sporting KC have faced off only thrice in series history, the connections between the two sides run strong. Three key figures in Nashville SC’s front office are tied to historical successes at Sporting KC.

Nashville SC General Manager Mike Jacobs served as Sporting KC’s Technical Director from 2015-17. During his tenure there, Sporting KC won the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup twice (2015, 2017), and saw the expansion and launch of Sporting Kansas City II in 2016.

Nashville SC Chief Scout Chance Myers played for Sporting KC from 2008-16. Myers and Sporting KC advanced to the MLS Playoffs seven times during his tenure with the club and won the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup twice (2012, 2015) along with the MLS Cup in 2013.

Former Nashville SC defender and current brand ambassador and media personality Jalil Anibaba played alongside Myers in the 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup winning season. Anibaba, Myers and Jacobs were all part of Sporting KC in the 2015 season.

Earlier today, Head Coach Gary Smith and midfielder Sean Davis addressed the media. They spoke about returning to a normal training schedule after a congested summer over the international break. Davis spoke about traveling to face Western Conference sides and the team’s familiarity with West coast road matches after the 2022 season. Smith spoke about the importance of picking up points through the rest of the season as playoffs are approaching.
