Nashville SC Debuts in Inaugural Leagues Cup 2023

MLS and Liga MX Seasons Paused for Continent-wide Tournament

The clash for the continent is finally here. Nashville SC will kick off its first-ever Leagues Cup campaign against the Colorado Rapids this Sunday, July 23 at 7:30 p.m. CT at GEODIS Park. For the first time, all Major League Soccer and Liga MX clubs are pausing their seasons to compete in a World Cup-style tournament throughout July and August.

The Boys in Gold have been placed in group Central 4 with the Rapids and Liga MX club Toluca. Nashville will host Toluca at GEODIS Park on Thursday, July 27. The top two clubs on points in each group will advance to the single-elimination knockout bracket. Teams will receive three points for a win and none for a loss. There are no draws in the group stage of the Leagues Cup. If teams are level after 90 minutes, each will receive a point with a penalty shootout deciding the allocation of an extra point.   

Head Coach Gary Smith, midfielder Aníbal Godoy and defender Shaq Moore addressed the media on Saturday morning from the Vanderbilt Health Training Center. All three discussed the opportunity Leagues Cup provides for Nashville SC to bring home its first trophy and qualify to the Concacaf Champions League.
