Sadly this wasn’t a great red carpet. Horrible? Disastrous? No. Uneventful? Uninspired? Yes. Super short skirts ruled. It took me back to the 90’s a bit. I thought I would see Melrose Place‘s Heather Locklear and Courtney Thorne-Smith hit the red carpet with Alicia Silverstone from Clueless. Another trend was a long pontytail, many were braided. While it lacked great fashion it was live and in-person so I’m grateful for that. Let’s take a look at the best and the worst.

Here’s the best

There isn’t anything that I don’t love about this look. This is my favorite look of the night. Yvonne Orji in Mimi Plange. We should all be going into the summer like this. I love the color, fit and movement. More like this please!!!

Many said this look was futuristic.  But Jurnee Smollett in Alexandre Vauthier Couture’s culottes with matching boots has taken me back to Paris in the 70’s where roommates, if you can believe it – Jessica Lange, Jerry Hall and Grace Jones were all modeling by day and clubbing by night.

The Outer Banks‘ Madelyn-Cline in Versace is channeling Amanda Woodward from Melrose Place and I don’t hate it. The opposite in fact. For a red carpet, the look may be a little simple and clean for me but there’s no denying how great she looks.

Speaking of channeling, Antonia Gentry in Valentino is channeling Clueless‘ Cher Horowitz in this pale pink tweed suit. The socks may be missing but the fashion attitude is not.

Chad star Nasim Pedrad in Valentino gives us short AND sparkly. And this red carpet needed it. She literally dazzles in this look.

Elizabeth Olsen in Mui Mui is a little minimal for me for still great looking. This crystal embellished look was paired with Sophia Webster pumps and continues the short skirt trend. Short and chic!

Olsen’s WandaVision co-star, Kathryn Hahn was also minimal in a Gabriela Hearst strapless top and flared pants. It was a great was to showcase the Misho ‘Cascade’ earrings. In a sea of short skirts this wonderfully stood out.

I know you thought I’d hate this but I don’t. It’s a lot but for me it works. Love that Outer Banks‘ Chase Stokes in Fendi took a fashion risk by wearing head-to-toe red. The sheer textured pullover is fantastic and pairing it with red sneakers is just the right touch.

Stokes’ co-star, Rudy Pankow made a statement in Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello. This look, black pinstripe (I ALMOST said pimp-stripe) and silk-satin shirt is giving off sexy disco vibes.

By contrast, newlywed, Justin Hartley in Dolce & Gabbana with an Omega timepiece was more casual. Still a great look. The only thing I question are the socks. They don’t really match the suede shoes and are they really necessary?

And here’s the worst

Carmen Miranda. That was my first impression when I saw this. All that’s missing is a fruit basket on her head. Madison Bailey in Versace.

I love these pieces. Just not together. I think they over power each other and cancel each other out. Riley Keough in Gucci.

The same for Keough’s co-star, Taylour Paige also in Gucci. I love the individual pieces but together I think it looks like she’s trying too hard. That sweet, innocent face and smile with that super-sexy sheer jumpsuit. For me not a great match.

The color is gorgeous but the fit of this dress isn’t flattering. Mandy Moore in Altuzarra with Ana Khouri jewelry. I know there’s a Moore is less/less is Moore pun in there somewhere. Maybe it’s hiding in one of those flaps or folds.

Another beautiful girl in an ill fitting outfit. I’m beginning to think it’s a plot. When Rachel Lindsay, and her stylist I might add, were looking at this what was going through their heads that they didn’t see how poorly these pants fit? It’s cute when you’re a small child parading around in your parents’ clothes that are too big. It isn’t so cute past the age of 6 or 7.

I’m a fashion editor and I need someone to explain to me what this is. Better still explain to me why she’s wearing it. It seems like it wants to be goth, sexy and edgy but I don’t think it accomplishes what it set out to achieve. Others liked this  so I may be in the minority on Tiktoker, Addison Rae’s look by Christopher Esber.
