Leonard and Matos tally multi-hit games; Wilken pushes on-base streak to 22

The Nashville Sounds split this week’s series with the Norfolk Tides by closing it out with a 5-1 win Sunday at First Horizon Park. Five Nashville players drove in runs, and Brock Wilken extended his on-base streak to 22 games.

After a scoreless start, the Sounds broke through in the third. Eddys Leonard opened the inning with a one-out single to extend both his hitting streak and on-base streak to five games. Luis Matos then worked a 12-pitch walk, and Luis Lara was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Brock Wilken brought home Leonard on a force out, and back-to-back walks by Jett Williams and Jeferson Quero forced in Matos to make it 2-0.

Carlos Rodriguez, making his second appearance of the week against Norfolk and his fourth start for Nashville this season, allowed no runs on two hits with four walks and three strikeouts over 2.2 innings. Drew Rom followed with 2.1 scoreless innings and two strikeouts, including a pair of 1-2-3 frames, before giving way to right-hander Craig Yoho in the sixth.

Nashville added three more runs in the sixth. Jeferson Quero and Freddy Zamora drew consecutive walks, and Ramón Rodríguez moved them into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Jordyn Adams followed with a bloop RBI single to right that scored Quero, then stole second. Leonard added another run with a groundout, and after Matos reached on an infield single, Lara drove in Adams with a single to center for a 5-0 lead.

Yoho completed two scoreless innings with three strikeouts before Blake Holub took over in the eighth. Norfolk got its only run on a solo homer to left off Holub, trimming the lead to 5-1. Holub stayed on for the ninth, allowed one single, struck out two, and closed out the win.

After Monday’s off day, the Sounds head to Louisville for their first meeting of the season with the Bats in a six-game series from May 5-10. First pitch Tuesday is scheduled for 5:05 p.m.

POSTGAME NOTES:

STEADY EDDYS: Eddys Leonard posted his eighth multi-hit game in his last 13 appearances by going 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run Sunday. He hit .500 (9-for-18) in five games against Norfolk, adding four RBI, three walks, two runs, and just two strikeouts. Leonard is tied with Luis Lara for the team lead with 11 multi-hit games this season. For comparison, he had only four multi-hit games in his first 27 Triple-A games with Gwinnett last year and did not reach 11 until June 14. He is batting .343 this season, ranking seventh in the International League in average, fifth in OPS (.992), and eighth in slugging (.576).

MULTI-MATOS: Outfielder Luis Matos played his first game since joining Nashville’s roster on Wednesday, April 29. Acquired from San Francisco on March 30, Matos appeared in nine games with Milwaukee and went 4-for-20 with a walk and a run scored. His 2-for-3 performance Sunday was his second multi-hit game of the season; his first came April 14 against Toronto, when he also went 2-for-3. In 2025, Matos split time between Triple-A Sacramento and San Francisco and hit .293 in 36 games with the River Cats.

OL’ CRAIG: After allowing more than one earned run for only the second time in his Triple-A career last Saturday in Charlotte, Craig Yoho bounced back with three straight scoreless outings against Norfolk. The Brewers’ No. 28 prospect worked a season-high 2.0 innings in Sunday’s finale without allowing a hit and recorded his second three-strikeout appearance in six games with the Sounds in 2026. He has now held opponents scoreless in 54 of his 63 career Triple-A games and owns a 1.19 ERA with Nashville, along with 86 strikeouts in 68.1 innings.

FEELING 22: Brock Wilken extended his on-base streak to 22 games with a fifth-inning double. He also walked in the seventh, finishing 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, and an RBI. Wilken trails Louisville’s JJ Bleday by one game for the International League’s longest active on-base streak after Bleday was recalled by Cincinnati on April 25 following a 23-game stretch with the Bats. Wilken’s streak is currently the sixth longest by any Triple-A player this season.

SUNDAY SPLIT: Sunday’s win gave the Sounds their first series split of the 2026 season through six series. Nashville is now 2-3-1 in series play and 4-2 in series finales. The Sounds also improved to 12-5 at home, tied with Syracuse and Memphis for the second-most home wins in the International League, behind Charlotte’s 13. Nashville is now 13-1 when leading after six innings, 14-1 when ahead after seven, and 13-0 when taking a lead into the ninth. The four hits allowed marked the sixth time this season the Sounds have held an opponent to five or fewer hits, with Norfolk accounting for four of those games.
