From nursery-rhyme charm and a Broadway-loved friendship tale to oversized puppets, holiday whimsy, and a world-premiere alphabet mystery, The Nashville Children’s Theatre’s 2026-2027 season, titled “From Page to Stage,” turns family programming into one of the city’s most stylish cultural outings.
If the season’s best cultural calendar is all about point of view, then Nashville Children’s Theatre is stepping into 2026–2027 with a sharply edited one. The institution—described as the country’s oldest youth-centered professional theatre and a destination for entertainment and education—continues to build a season that treats family programming not as an afterthought, but as a main event with imagination, warmth, and unmistakable flair.
The season opens in a playful register with Mother Goose (August 15–October 25, 2026), a laugh-out-loud invitation for the youngest audiences to step inside a nursery-rhyme universe where classic stories become interactive theatre. Then the spotlight shifts to A Year with Frog and Toad (September 19–October 18, 2026), the Broadway hit that earned three Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical. Based on Arnold Lobel’s beloved books and featuring a hummable score by Robert and Willie Reale, the production follows the cheerful Frog and the endearingly grumpy Toad through four delightful seasons, celebrating the differences that make friendship enduring, distinctive, and deeply charming. Part vaudeville, part make-believe, the show adds a sophisticated note of nostalgia and wit to the fall lineup. It’s followed by the visual enchantment of The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show (November 14, 2026–January 3, 2027), which promises a vivid stage journey through four beloved Eric Carle stories, complete with larger-than-life puppetry and a color-saturated sense of wonder. Together, these productions set the tone for a season that understands exactly how to speak to young audiences without ever talking down to them.

Then comes the holiday entry with sparkle and momentum: Ken Ludwig’s ’Twas the Night Before Christmas (November 21–December 27, 2026). With its mischievous mouse, determined young heroine, and high-spirited seasonal adventure, the production sounds poised to deliver the kind of festive theatre that feels polished enough for tradition yet lively enough for a new generation of families building their own December rituals.
By winter, the programming pivots from cozy nostalgia to inventive discovery. A,B,C… What Do You See? (January 30–April 25, 2027) arrives as an NCT world premiere, inviting little theatre-goers to join Detective McDoodle on an alphabet hunt inspired by seek-and-find play. And for families looking for a production with both pop-bright energy and substance, Polkadots: The Cool Kids Musical (February 27–April 30, 2027) closes the lineup with an accessible, family-friendly story about acceptance, friendship, and the courage to stand out—drawing inspiration from Civil Rights history while keeping its tone upbeat, contemporary, and emotionally clear.
What makes the announcement feel especially compelling is how neatly it aligns with the broader identity of Nashville Children’s Theatre, which says it has spent more than 90 years helping audiences build empathy, think critically, and connect through performances, classes, and community programs. This season’s curation balances delight and depth with a confidence that feels decidedly modern: whimsical, inclusive, visually rich, and fully aware that theatre for young people can be every bit as artful—and as culturally relevant—as anything else on the city’s entertainment map.
